Welcome

My paintings are inspired by places I have visited and are generally landscape and weather related.

I am a keen walker both in this country and on big walks in the Himalayas, Peru and New Zealand. The structure of the landscape is always my starting point and I build up surfaces which I can rub back and work into, this often leads to interesting textural and atmospheric qualities. I have no preconceived idea of what the final outcome will be and often produce work in a series because one piece leads quite naturally to another. I make sketches and notes which can often lead to abstract pieces.

My paintings are mostly in oil on a gesso base; I move the paint around easily and love the atmosphere created by the smell of oil in my studio.

Hopefully there is space and suggestion in my paintings which the viewer can relate to and escape into.
